Sorting Hat Ceremony Game

• An iconic moment in the Harry Potter series is when Harry must attend the Sorting Hat ceremony and his fate as a Gryffindor is chosen. You can recreate this memorable moment with a Sorting Hat ceremony game. Give each player a sealed envelope that contains the name of one of the four houses: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin.

Using a costume witch's hat or even a licensed Sorting Hat puppet (see Resources), place the hat on a stool or small table and let each player come up to the hat to be "sorted." Once the player is under the hat, the player should guess which house has been chosen for her. After her guess, open the envelope to reveal the house chosen. If she guesses correctly, award her with a small prize.

Spells Game

• Create a list of magical dilemmas such as being confronted by a Boggart or dealing with a Dementor. On a master list, make note of each dilemma and its magical solution. Have each player or team choose which magical spell would be appropriate for each situation. With this game, you can award small prizes for each answer or use a point system that allows the player or team with the most points to win.
