Personally, I was happy to see Splinter Cell deviate from the “Wait, wait, hide a body, wait some more” formula. While the series wowed initially with impressive visuals and realistic AI, the annual game play had grown a bit dull and lifeless, brought down by the weight of conspiratorial portent it so desperately wanted us to care about, it assumed we’d restart failed missions several billion times just to sit through more of it.

In that respect, things have changed for the better. Literally projecting Sam Fisher’s motivation on the walls rings true as a welcome new method through which games, like BioShock and Half-Life, unspool a narrative while you play, and not while you watch. However, we were all a bit misled to believe this was all part of a much larger change for the series. And this is where Conviction will get extremely divisive.

If you overlook the graphics problem, which I did, you end up with a decent game. Splinter Cell Conviction is not going to be the game of the year, but you can surely appreciate the fact that there are two separate campaigns, one for single player and a different one for co-op. The second one involves a lot of great tactics and co-operative moves with one of your friends, and that adds a lot of value to the package.

The story of the game takes you through many different environments and it shows us how Sam Fisher evolved since the first games of the series. If you are a fan, the game is great, if you never played the other Splinter Cell games, you can start playing now.

Not to mention, games are quite expensive, unless you went to a free game downloads website.
